Vertical Fan for Tunnel Ventilation System: Vertical fan design has been adopted, which is one of the unique system in metro, resulting in huge space saving and energy saving.
Chennai Metro Rail becomes the first metro rail in India to install vertical tunnel ventilation fan system for Phase 1 extension at Sri Thiagaraya College Metro, Underground Station. Conventionally, the horizonal tunnel ventilation fans are installed at both ends of underground stations and require additional station box length up to 90m per station. By installing, the vertical fan system, the station box length was brought down to 150m from conventional 240m station box, for 6 car platform.
